Bamboo Rice is a rare variety of rice that is grown out of a bamboo shoot. The bamboo shoot blossoms into this rare and rich variety of rice seed. While it looks very similar to paddy, it tastes more like wheat and is slightly sweet. The cooked rice is moist, sticky and chewy when consumed. It makes a great option for khichdi/kheer made on festivals. It can also be consumed like usual rice – along with dal and other curries. Rich source of calcium, it helps to strengthen the bones; rich in protein and offers a host of health benefits.
